Greetings, and welcome to the website of the violist Greg Williams. This website offers you details about his background and philosophy, and gives you access to information on where and what he is performing, and other projects that he is currently involved with.A Native of Long Island, New York, Greg Williams is a new resident of Woodside, Queens. He received his Bachelors Degree in Viola Performance at Boston University where he studied with Michelle LaCourse, and received his Masters Degree in Viola Performance and Literature where he was a student of George Taylor. He is about to commence on his Doctorate in Viola Performance at the CUNY Graduate Center, where he will be studying with Karen Ritscher. Other important teachers have included Melissa Matson, Principal Violist of the Rochester Philharmonic, John Graham; Kerri Ryan of the Philadelphia Orchestra, among others.Mr. Williams has had the opportunity of performing numerous festivals throughout the United States, including the Aspen Music Festival and School, where he received a Fellowship; the CW Post Chamber Music Festival, (Brookville, NY), where he was a recipient of the Lillian Fuchs Viola Scholarship; the National Orchestral Institute; Icicle Creek Chamber Music Festival (Leavenworth, Washington); Summer Chamber Music Concert Series of Portland Oregon. He has participated in the Karen Tuttle Viola Coordination Workshops, and for three years he has served on the staff as a Counselor, Head Counselor and Chamber Music Coach at the NYSSSA School of Orchestral Studies in Saratoga Springs, NY. At the age of 17, Greg Williams appeared on National Public Radio’s From the Top, performing with Christopher O’Riley in Corning, NY. Mr. Williams has performed with the Syracuse Symphony, Arcos Chamber Orchestra, and has performed with several ensembles at Carnegie Hall; Constitution Hall (Washington, DC); and Symphony Hall (Boston). He will also begin collaborating in the viola section of the Westchester Chamber Symphony during the Autumn of 2011.Since September 2008, Greg Williams has served on the String Faculty of Kellenberg Memorial High School, where he has taught numerous students on viola and violin, and accompanied the Phoenix Chamber Ensemble and Latin School Choirs on piano. He has also served on the String Faculty and Guest Conducted the String Orchestras of the Ross School of East Hampton, NY; and has served on the faculties of the Long Island Conservatory, Long Island School of the Arts and the Southampton Cultural Center. He also served as Co-Director of the Southampton String Festival, and as Founder and Artistic Director of the Empire Chamber Music Society and the William Floyd Music Alumni Concert Series.
